3 Things I Never Dive Without, And Why You Should Do The Same

I have been diving for over thirty years.

There have been a few close calls during that time.

Here are three things I have learnt to always have on me.

#1: Diving Knife
  • Not for sharks, clearly.
  • Primarily to escape entanglement in rope or fishing line.
  • I use a Rob Allen X Blade System.
  • Super slimline and easy to take on and off.
#2: Emergency Diver Alert Marker (DAM):
  • Getting lost at sea or nearly run over by a boat is not optimal.
  • I have experience of both.
  • I use a Halycon Closed Circuit Diver Alert Marker.
  • It sits in a small pouch attached to my weight belt.
#3: Signalling Mirror:
  • The best way to attract the attention of a distant boat or plane when lost at sea is with a signalling mirror,
  • Whistles are useless as engine noise drowns them out
  • I use a simple signalling mirror bought from Amazon
  • It is kept in the same pouch as my diver alert marker

If you are into diving, I strongly advise making these three things a non -non-negotiable EDDC, or "everyday dive carry"
