The Man With The Golden Eye

This portrait of a wildlife cinematographer was shot on Magas Island off the west coast of South Africa.

It is an intentional homage to Justin's passion for shooting backlit imagery, which he did to great effect on Malgas on this shoot.

Justin and been assigned by BBC Producer Hugh Pearson to film gannet chicks fledging for his film on the sardine run off the coast of South.

This film, "The Great Tide", was part of the Nature's Great Events Series, which aired on BBC 1 in February 2009.

Backstory

As an assistant cameraman, I took every opportunity to develop my "visual eye" or way of seeing by shooting stills while on assignment.

In the process, I generated an archive of imagery which runs into the hundreds of thousands and serves as a rich source of visual memos.

I will be sharing these images with a brief caption, as a tool to generate questions about and reflections on the craft of wildlife cinematography.
